Much of the frustration from customers appears to be due to Nintendo deciding to sell the item only through the official store.
As a possible result of this, the site experienced widespread outages when pre-orders began.
At the time of writing, the game’s product page was experiencing issues, as users were presented with a queue page that said, “We have a lot of visitors right now. Wait there, we’ll be with you soon.” Despite the queue, the product was reportedly out of stock.
Many have taken to Twitter to express their frustration with the post.
This is the second time the item has been pre-ordered on the Nintendo website. The first round of pre-orders also caused problems, as Nintendo allowed two copies of the Special Edition to be purchased at the same time, leading to similar speculation issues.
It’s unclear if Nintendo plans to roll out a similar special edition in different regions, or if there will be a third wave of stock.
Frustration is compounded by the fact that Japan’s Nintendo Store has left pre-orders open for the game, and plans to produce what’s necessary, despite warning of longer waiting times for Special Edition items.
