Three killed in snowstorm on Pennsylvania Highway

About 40 vehicles were stranded at 81 interstates due to heavy fog and rain. About 20 people were taken to area hospitals, said John Flickley, deputy emergency management coordinator for Schயிலuil County.

Two dozen fire companies responded to the crash, where several vehicles caught fire, Flickley said.

The pile occurred just after 10:30 a.m. Monday on the north lane of Interstate 81 near Mile Marker 116, Flickley said. This place is about 50 miles west of Allentown. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Wrote in a tweet All lanes of the highway were closed due to the accident on Monday morning.

Mike Moe was one of the victims, and videotaped the incident. He told CNN he was driving on I-81 when he pulled his dodge charger to the side of the highway because it was difficult to see the road through snow and fog.

“I thought it would be okay. I thought the cars in the back would slow down, but no one slowed down. They just kept accumulating,” he told CNN.

Moe got out of his car and walked off the road, then began to film the cars and lorries sliding down the road and colliding with the backs of other vehicles.

In the video, a black sedan collided on the highway; A white 18-wheeler collided with the rear of two other vehicles; The other two cars go in the rear of the 18-wheeler; And a minivan pulls off the road. A vehicle flew into the rubble and shouted, “Watch out!” Shouted the black sedan and collided with the Moin car.

On the road, a huge haze of smoke came out of a burning truck, the video shows. Moye was not injured, he told CNN.

Other videos show the aftermath of the pile. Drone shots of the scene show dozens of cars and trucks pointing in different directions across the road.

Videos of another driver, Pacia Sidlowski, show vehicles sprawling across the highway, at ground level..

The National Weather Service warned of snowfall in many parts of the county and Pennsylvania until 1:30 p.m. A The fog is intense Moderate to severe snowfall, defined as strong, strong surface winds and thunderstorms. Snow accumulation can be significant.

Strong Arctic fronts moved over New York and New England on Monday, bringing hail that was expected to lead to dangerous travel conditions.

No fog warning was issued for the crash site at the time of the crash. However, based on radar data analyzed by CNN meteorologists, a short snowfall across I-81 fell nearby. The wind was blowing at 20 mph in the area, which may have resulted in low visibility.
