Ukrainian troops appear to have forced Russian retreat into Kharkiv, but analysts warn that Moscow’s forces are reuniting and preparing for a siege in the east. Meanwhile, shelling across the country continues to kill lives and destroy infrastructure. On Friday, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksi Resnikov warned of a “new, long phase of the war.”
Updates on major battlefields are here:
Kharkiv: Ukrainian forces launched an effective counterattack around the northeastern city, pushing for the withdrawal of Russian troops, but the shelling continued. In Dehradun, two people were killed and four others were injured when a shelling damaged a humanitarian organization, a registry office, part of a clinic and an ambulance building, Kharkiv Governor Oleg Sinekubov told the Telegram on Friday.
Luhansk: A Russian battalion crossing the Donetsk River, west of Chevrolet Donetsk, was destroyed this week after Ukrainian forces demolished the Pontoon Bridge on the river, the British Defense Ministry said. Confirmed Friday. It is not clear how many Russian soldiers died.
Donetsk: The governor of the region Pavlo Girillenko said on Friday that one civilian was killed and a dozen others were injured in the Russian attacks. Invasion forces shelled Avtvika Coke, the largest coke producer in Ukraine, and a chemical plant in the center of the Russian occupation stronghold of Donetsk.
Mariupol: In the Russian-controlled port city, occupying forces continue to bomb the Azovstal steel plant, where the last occupants of the Ukrainian army have taken refuge. Ukrainian officials say they are in talks with the Russians to release more than three dozen wounded militants.
