During the ceremony, Wynonna Judd and Ashley Judd reflected on the difficulty of honoring her record too soon after losing their mother.
“I’m not preparing anything tonight because I know Mom’s talking too much,” Vinona told the audience.
Wynonna and Naomi Judd have starred as mother-daughter duo The Juts for decades.
“I’m going to do this fast because my heart is broken, and I feel so blessed. It’s a very different movement, this broken and this is blessed,” he said.
“We will do so with a heavy heart,” Young wrote.
Judd passed away at the age of 76, his daughters announced Saturday, just hours before the folk music legend was celebrated with Wynona at the Nashville Museum’s Medallion Festival.
In their announcements shared on Twitter, actress and activist Vinona and Ashley wrote that “our beautiful mother has lost her mind mentally”.
“My uncle loved you so much and he appreciated your love for him,” Ashley said of her mother in tears at Sunday’s ceremony. “I’m sorry she could not bear it to this day. Your value on her and your respect for her penetrated deep into her heart, and it was your affection for her that kept her going in these last years.”
Ray Charles, Eddie Byers and Pete Drake were inducted into the Hall of Fame during Sunday’s ceremony.
“We are deeply saddened and know that she was loved by the public because we loved her,” her daughters said when Naomi’s death was announced. “We are in unknown territory.”
The mother-daughter duo began working together as a professional in the early 1980s, soon becoming big hits such as “Mama His Crazy” and “Love Can Build a Bridge” and selling more than 20 million records. Between 1984 and 1991, The Jude won five Grammys and had 14 No. 1 singles in the Hall of Fame.
When Wynona sang the lead song, the Hall of Fame said, “Naomi provided a sizzling stage presence that engages in harmony, ingenuity and audience.”
The announcement was made shortly after the news of Jude’s death, with “the museum, Juds’ family and fans and the entertainment industry mourning his sudden death.”
