Mike Tomlin pays tribute to Franco Harris after the Steelers beat the Raiders

The Steelers and NFL already planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of an immaculate reception Saturday night, but last night’s game took on a special meaning when Steelers legend Franco Harris passed away just days earlier. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said afterward that the game had a special significance.

Tomlin, who wears jersey number 32 Harris, said he and his players know how lucky they are to play for the franchise Harris helped build.

“We had the opportunity to be a part of Steeler history tonight,” said Tomlin. “We don’t take it lightly. We appreciate the ground laid by those who came before us, guys like this guy whose jersey I wear here. We enjoy the fruits of their labor every day. Just in terms of the level of expectations here in Pittsburgh, the relationship we have with our fan base. We just wanted Honoring him, his teammates, and all the men who came before us and who made black and gold what it is.”

The Steelers’ season wasn’t great, but their win on the big night was something Steelers fans could always cherish, and one that would make Harris proud of.
