Meghan Markle – and listeners of the ‘archetype’ podcast – ‘started to sweat’ after Mariah Carey accused the Duchess of Sussex of having ‘diva moments’ in Tuesday episode.
When Markle, 41, told her guest that she doesn’t personally “call” the “singer…personal,” Carrie, 53, interrupted.
“You give us diva moments sometimes, Megan,” the singer said. “Don’t act like [you don’t]. “
The “Suits” alum seemed confused, asking, “What kind of singer moments did I give you?”
Then Carey clarified that it means “Markle’s visual.”[s]Not her character saying “didn’t mean” to comment and was “playing” with the former actress.
Markle expressed relief after the interview ended.
“She must have felt my nervous laugh, and… she jumped right in to make sure I was completely clear when the singer she was talking about said the way I dressPosture, and clothing, she explained.
“I meant the singer as a compliment, but I heard it as a dig,” the Duchess continued. “That moment, she explained to me, meant it was elegant and inspiring.”
Before Carey set the record straight, Markle admitted he was “confused inside [her] chair in [a] Quiet revolution” against the accusation.
“[The conversation] Everything was going smoothly, really well, until that moment happened,” she recalls. “It stopped me in my tracks. …my mind was honestly circling about the bullshit that I might have read or clicked on to get her to say it.”
Markle explained, “I kept thinking in that moment: Is my girl getting too fast? Is she really not seeing me?”
Earlier in the episode, “Bench” author Carrie told how important the Grammy winner’s career was to her while growing up biracial.
“You were too formative for me,” said Markle, who Launched her own podcast earlier this month with guest star Serena Williams.
“Acting is very important,” she added. “When I came to the scene, [I was like]”Oh, my God, someone looks like me.”
