Heat players thank Draymond Green for inspiring Game 6’s win over the Celtics

With their season on the line, the Miami Heat played an inspiring Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals Friday night.

The top-seeded Heat needed a win to extend their season, as they halted a furious rally from the Boston Celtics to take the win. 111-103 victory in TD Garden.

Jimmy Butler played the game of his life, scoring 47 points in his playoff career to bring his best of seven streak back to Miami as the winner takes it all in Game 7.

After losing 25 home points in Game 5 and heading into Game 6, the Heat were counted by every NBA analyst and even some players, including Warriors striker Draymond Green.

That was all the fuel the heat needed.

Moments after the final bell sounded in Boston, veteran Heat forward Odonis Haslem headed to Mike Breen, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy at the ESPN broadcast table and had something to say.

“He wants to convey a message,” Jackson said. “He told Draymond Green, thank you.” “We’re going to play the Boston Celtics,” said Draymond Green. “Odonis Haslam walks up and says, ‘Thank you for the inspiration.'”

A few minutes later, PJ Tucker went on ESPN and said basically the same thing.

“Hey, tell Draymond I said ‘I appreciate it,'” Tucker told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter after the game.

After the Warriors beat the Mavericks Thursday night to seal their place in the NBA Finals, Green went on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” show and was asked about the team would like to play.

“If you ask me who I want to play, I’ll tell you who I think we’re going to play,” Green said. “We’re going to play Boston. That’s what we’re going to play.”

The green may have caught fire unexpectedly under the heat. If Miami beat Boston in Game 7 on Sunday night, they will have additional motivation in the NBA Finals against the Warriors.
