Govt patients may have an increased risk of developing mental health problems

The study found that after covit disease, people were 55 percent more likely to take the prescribed antidepressant and 65 percent more likely to take the prescribed antidepressant than their non-covid contemporaries.

Overall, more than 18 percent of Covid patients received a diagnosis or prescription for a neuropsychiatric problem the following year, compared to less than 12 percent in the non-Covid group. The study found that patients with Govt are 60 percent more likely to fall into those categories than those without Govt.

The study found that patients hospitalized for Govt disease were more likely to be diagnosed with mental health problems than those with a less severe corona virus infection. But those with a mild initial infection are even more at risk than those without covid.

“Some people always argue, ‘Oh, maybe people were depressed because they had to go to the hospital and they spent a week in the ICU,’ ‘said Dr. Ziad al-Ali, the study’s senior author. VA is the Head of Research and Development at the St. Louis Healthcare System and a Medical Epidemiologist at the University of Washington in St. Louis. “Of those who were not hospitalized for Covit-19, the risk was lower, but certainly significant.

The team compared the psychiatric diagnosis for those admitted to the hospital for Govt disease with those admitted to the hospital for any other reason. “Even if people were hospitalized for a heart attack or chemotherapy or any other condition, the Kovit-19 team would have been at higher risk,” Dr Al-Ali said.

The study includes electronic medical records of 153,848 adults tested positive for the corona virus between March 1, 2020 and January 15, 2021, and survived for at least 30 days. Because it was at the onset of infections, very few people were vaccinated before infection. Patients followed until November 30, 2021. Dr. Al-Ali said his team planned to study whether subsequent vaccinations altered people’s mental symptoms and other Govt medical problems the team examined.

Between March 2018 and January 2019, Govt patients were compared with more than 5.6 million patients in the veterinary system who were not positive tested for the corona virus, and more than 5.8 million patients who were pre-infected. The health impact of Govit-19 against another virus to try to measure mental status was comparable to that of approximately 72,000 patients who contracted the flu in the two and a half years prior to infection. (Dr. Al-Ali, at the time of the epidemics, had very few flu cases to provide a contemporary comparison.)
