Last month Eric Prydz announced he would perform at a special one-off show as a tribute to one of his biggest fans, James Lillo.
At the time, Lillo was battling mediastinal nonseminomatous germ cell carcinoma, a rare form of terminal cancer. Before the artist could put on the massive Los Angeles performance, James tragically passed away after his nearly one-year long fight against the illness.
Despite the untimely loss, Prydz still held two events and dropped a brand new song created in memoriam.
Both shows, taking place at Sound Nightclub, donated all proceeds to cancer research and were produced with the help of some of James’ closest friends.
Avery Weisfeld, who remained inseparable from Lillo since their freshman year of high school and throughout college, recounts the night: “It was honestly unbelievable, the best experience of my life. At one point after we met [Eric], we talked for a bit and he took us down to the stage. He started playing, with me and three friends in the booth, grabbed me and gave me the biggest hug and said ‘this is for James’.
Weisfeld, a fellow super-fan of Prydz called his time with the artist “the shining moment” of his life, describing it was “exactly as James would have wanted it”.
Prydz, who became close with Lillo during the starting processes of producing the events, raised over $60,000 for the Cancer Research Institute through ticket sales and donations.
