Cowboys’ first road playoff win since 1992 has Jerry Jones dreaming big

Before Monday night, the Cowboys had not won a road playoff game since 1992. The 49ers won the NFC Championship Game that season 30–20 before handing Jerry Jones his first of three Lombardi Trophies.

The Cowboys have suffered some road heartaches in the interim, losing in 2006 in Seattle when Tony Romo overthrew the snap on a field goal attempt and in 2014 in Green Bay in the “Des Cat It” game. They are 0-8 in the postseason on the road since winning in San Francisco in 1992.

Thirty years was a long time to go, and only 12 of that team’s 53-player roster were still alive.

“This is about the 2022 Cowboys and the Buccaneers,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said. “It’s very simple and clean. I know it’s not going to be glamorous . . . but we’re glad we were able to go to San Francisco.

The Cowboys haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game since 1995, the last time they won the Super Bowl. They need to beat 49 players to reach the championship game this season. Then, if the Eagles beat the Giants, the Cowboys must go on the road to beat Philadelphia to reach the Super Bowl.

“Can you do it? We’ll find out,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “But this team has a talent level, and now the intangibles of being knocked down, getting up — the things that we hear, the things that represent football, all of those things, this team has some of that. . Everyone on this team knows that Tom is the world when they come to Tampa today. thought [Brady] If not at the last minute, he would have picked it up before then and sat outside. We’re going to go home and back home in San Francisco. We got more mustard than we got here.

The Cowboys dominated Brady and the Bucks from start to finish. Even at number 12 on the other side, the game was never in doubt.

Jones acknowledged the Cowboys’ chances of winning another title, especially when they had home-field advantage, said his team likes where it is right now.

“I like to think we can put something together that can be successful,” Jones said. “It was very avoidable, very avoidable for us. We have a team tonight that has enough talent to win and now we have some experience. So, I think we got that tonight.
