Paramount Pictures is pleased D & D Comic-Con fans with an official panel and trailer for her upcoming feature film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
The movie is a rerun of the program movie trilogy which was launched with Dungeons & Dragons (2000). This film bombed the box office, grossing just over $33 million worldwide against its $45 million budget. In addition, it was attacked by critics for its poor quality (especially cheap special effects), poor performance, and incompetent directing. This movie is still being born D&D: The Wrath of the Divine Dragon (2005), a stand-alone sequel dedicated to television; And the D&D 3: The Book of Dark Antichrist (2012), which had a direct-to-DVD release.
The current reboot was first proposed by Warner Bros. In 2013, but the announcement of the project quickly angered Hasbro, because Hasbro was developing its own D & D Movie with Universal Pictures. Hasbro sued and eventually settled, giving Warner Bros. Green light to continue. Eventually, Hasbro moved the project to Paramount, where it shot for the July 2021 issue, and hired John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to write and direct. The release was delayed twice Honor among thieves You will finally see the light of day on March 3, 2023.
Readers of a certain age may recognize Frances Daly’s name: as an actor, he played Sam Weir on the tragically underrated 1999-2000 TV show. Freaks and geeks. (He also played FBI analyst Lance Sweets on bones.) Discover D & D During his time on the show, needless to say, it was a dream come true for him to be able to direct a D & D Movie. As is He told the crowd in Hall H. At Comic-Con:
My personality [on Freaks and Geeks] He was obsessed with and was a huge fan of dungeons and dragons. I had known about the oceanic thing so I decided, being the young actor that I was, to play a campaign with my fellow cast members, and immediately fell in love with the world.
Because, you guys know, anyone plays dungeons and dragonsIt’s not just a game. It’s really the feeling you get when you play the game and that’s really what we tried to do here with this movie. That feeling of camaraderie, family, coming together as a group, facing obstacles [where] Don’t know what to expect. Lots of things that upset Germany [dungeon master], you don’t know what will happen. So that’s what we wanted to capture. And of course, that unique brand of humor that I think sets us apart from anything else in the fictional space.
Honor among thieves It was set in great popularity Forgotten Realms Campaign. The film’s official premise is short and sweet: “A charming thief and a group of unexpected adventurers undertake an epic heist to recover the lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they go wrong with the wrong people.”
The charming thief mentioned is Elgin, the poet, played by Chris Pine, who confesses in the trailer that, as a thief, he is bound to make some enemies, and sometimes those enemies decide to take revenge. “Truthfully, we helped the wrong person steal the wrong thing,” he says in an audio commentary. “We didn’t mean to unleash the greatest evil the world has ever known. But we will fix it.”
It will not be an easy solution. He will need the strength of Holga, a barbarian (Michelle Rodriguez); Courage via Xenk (Regé-Jean Page), Paladin; And magic thanks to Simon the Magician (Judge Smith). Then there’s Doric (Sophie Lillis), an amazing priest who can transform into a ferocious owl, which comes in handy during a fight. As for Elgin, “I’m a planner,” he said to Doric. “I make plans. If the current plan fails, I make a new one.” Bonus: He also plays the oud.
The Comic-Con panel showed an unfinished clip from the film showing the squad on a Helmet of Destruction search mission, which involves digging up corpses in order to interrogate them. The official trailer, set to Led Zeppelin, tends to be humorous and campy, which can definitely work in a fantasy adventure setting. Hugh Grant likened the tone to Monty Pythonbut there is also some underestimation of cheese, for example, The story of a knight. I will approach this approach on an overly strict and subjective tone. As Lee Hutchinson, senior technology editor at Ars, notes, “This looks so dumb that it just sticks around and probably gets cool.”
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves It is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 3, 2023. There is already a separate TV series in development, and it is intended to be the cornerstone of the many different projects to complete the film.
